Alpe di Siusi - Castelrotto

The strength points of the Sciliar Plateau (Schlern Gebiet) are the Hotels of long tradition, the medieval castles, the stead houses, the historical commemorations and the gastronomy with the natural tastes of the speck, cakes and the delicatessen which are a reason of pride of the locality. The 350 kilometres of accurately marked paths and the Natural Park of the Sciliar (6.386 hectares characterized from an unusual wealth of flora), make the plateau a sort of natural terrace at the beginning of the Valley of the Isarco.
Going up from Prato all'Isarco (Blumau) we find the delicious locality of Fiè allo Sciliar (800 m), one of the pearls of the plateau, spotted by splendid small farms and ancient places where witches were said to live...
More towards the north, at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, at 2000 metres, we find the biggest pasture of Europe as well as a real paradise for cross country skiers. Going on there are the villages of Siusi and Castelrotto.
All summer long you cannot miss the "Strudel weeks": a gluttonous occasion to put together cooking with the magic of the plateau. The pastry of the Hotel Heubad Hotel reveals the many ways to prepare the Strudel, the typical Alto Adige cake.
The entire valley boasts a very rich tradition that goes from the legends of the past to the great peasant wedding. In June the knight tournament "The Ride of Oswald von Wolkenstein" is disputed.
