Castelrotto/Kastelruth

Castelrotto is a pleasant town situated on some hills, with ancient houses (today hotels and restaurants), flowered windowsills and richly decorated iron signs. Some rests of the destroyed castle is conserved in the Chapel of Sant’Antonio.
The taverns, or Gasthöfe, often stand under the century old stone vaults of the most beautiful buildings. In the stuben of the “Goldenes Rössl”, an inn that goes back to 1393, you can taste the classical game dishes or the incomparable strudel: the association Sciliar-good cooking is by now a consolidated tradition.
In winter fun possibilities do not lack: 20 km cross country tracks and even 30 km snow walks.

In January, in Castelrotto, it is tradition to recall the peasant wedding. The celebration lasts a whole day, with jokes and banquets; about 20 sledges transport the invitees in traditional clothes to the church.
