Chiusa/Klausen

The locality was inhabited already since the iron Age. The Romans developed the town and made it grow in importance as to made it become an episcopal seat in 570. Subsequently the bishop moved his seat to Bressanone but Chiusa remained economically important because it was the customs centre of the bishopric. The town is also known thanks to its white wines, in particular the famous Sylvaner. In Chiusa we suggest a visit to the Captain's Tower, the Church of the Twelve Apostles, the Civic Museum and the Monastery of Sabiona.
