Dobbiaco/Toblach
Dobbiaco lies at the foot of two Natural Parks, on one side the "Natural Park Dolomiti di Sesto"and on the other the “Natural Park Fanes-Sennes-Braies”.
Divided into Dobbiaco Nuova and Dobbiaco Vecchia, the locality is a characteristic village with little streets rich in history and tradition, such as via Graf Kunigl, where beautiful residencies of the year 1500 can be admired, or the oldest Way of the Cross of Tyrol, where the chapels go back to 1519.
The stores of Dobbiaco (loden and clothing) attract tourists of every zone.
In characteristic atmospheres with caisson ceilings and majolica stoves you can have the possibility of tasting the good typical and genuine kitchen of the area.
Gustav Mahler, the famous bohemian composer, spent his summer vacations in Dobbiaco from 1908 to 1910. He staid at the Trenkerhof in Carbonin Vecchia where he composed the ninth and the tenth symphony and "The song of the earth". It is possible to visit the house where he composed and one room in the Residence Mahler (for information: Restaurant Gustav Mahler Stube Tel. 0474-972347). Worth a visit is also the Gustav Mahler Museum with the hut in which the artist used to withdraw in order to compose. In July, among the relevant events, we remind the week dedicated to the artist.
Do not miss the most important winter sport event: the International Cross-Country Race DOBBIACO-CORTINA. The track is 42 Km long and follows the old lines that connected Calalzo to the Val Pusteria.
