Falzes/ Pfalzen

Falzes/ Pfalzen is situated on the Pustertal Sunny Road, on a wide plateau. The first inhabitants chose this place because of its tepid climate. "Falzes" derives from the Latin word "Palatium": in the Roman Age, indeed, a castle was built here. The climate is still quite mild, as northward the nice hills are protected by the high mountain peaks, that stop the cold airstreams. These verdant mounts offer wonderful views on the valley villages and on the Dolomites in the distance. The environment and the farm landscape around Falzes still save the ancient fascination: meadows and alpine pastures, a refuge hut, a shingle roof, quietness ...

This village has become a well-kept, neat residential area with picturesque South Tyrolean houses; it includes the outlets of Issing and Greinwalden. This place is rich in culture and tradition. During the last few decades, it has developed from a farming background to become a thriving community.
It's worth visiting the parish church at Falzes, consacrated to Saint Ciriaco, the beautiful Saint Valentine church, a rural sanctuary in late Gothic style (1434) containing some frescoes by Friedrich Pacher (1487), Saint Nicholas church at Issengo and the Brunnenkapelle at Haselried, that dates back to the 15th century, another famous pilgrimage destination, beloved by local people.

In winter Falzes offers several fun opportunities, such as the sledge trail lighted at night and the new ice rink. The young guests can learn to ski on the kids' ski run, equipped with a carousel. The snowy landscape is particularly suitable for winter walks, cross-country and sledge trips. Finally, the lovers of winter sports can enjoy beautiful ski runs in Plan de Coronesski area.

In summer this area becomes a paradise for those who like hikes, an uncontaminated natural environment and the pleasant cool breeze.
