Valle di Luson
Val di Luson/Lüsental extends in the north of Bressanone/Brixen's hollow; it is linked to the majestic Sass di Putia/Pleiterkofel thanks to Passo d'Erbe/Würzjoch and Passo Rodella/Halsl. On the southern side of the valley there is the Plose, Bressanone/Brixen's famous mount, whereas in the north the ridge of Luson/Lüsen lightly shapes the valley. The sunlit southern slopes of this mountain range host the area of Luson, composed from peasant settlements and modern villages as Luson itself.
Luson is a nice village, rich of traditions. The panorama is characterised by the parish church consecrated to St. George, with its sharp Gothic-style belfry, with pointed-arch windows that dates back to 1472. The church has been decorated in baroque-style during the 18th century, and after the fire of 1921 it was further enlarged. The belfry dates back to 1472. Admirable also the "Kilianskirche" located in the village, that dates back to 1472, the gothic church consecrated to St. Nicholas at Pezze/Petschied and the chapel of Valletta/Flitt. Besides the well-maintained mountain huts, you can also visit the just restored Maierhof residence in the lower part of the village. Unluckily only the ruins of a wall remain of Castle Luson/Lüsen.
The village offers everything you might need in terms of fun and sports: tennis courts, a small stream for Kneipp hydrotherapy, shooting range, playground and much more. The hotels, pensions and inns are cosy and invite to a pleasant stay.
In summer, the visitors can sunbathe or splash into the natural bathing lake, go for a bike excursion or for open air sports. Several trails lead to the Plose massif, to the huts and pastures at high altitude, to the Sass di Putia and Odles d'Eores.
In winter, Luson offers a skilift, a cross-country slope and an ice-skating rink. One more skilift and cross-country slope are situated on the Alpe di Luson (1600 - 1700 m.). The area also includes the fabulous Plose skiarea, easy to reach thanks to a free bus service.
