Nova Ponente
The village of Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, plunged into the green of meadows and woods, lies in a sunny and central position in the Regglberg plateau, between the Ega and Adige valleys, and it can boast a superb sight on the Rosengarten, the Latemar, Corno Bianco/Weißhorn and the Corno Nero/Schwarzhorn.
During the summer the lovers of mountaineering and nature, have at their disposal several excursions, climbing and wonderful walks in a suggestive and genuine scenery.
In winter, free ski busses link Nova Ponente to the Skicenter Latemar-Obereggen where you can practice alpine skiing along the 50 km of ski runs perfectly covered with snow from the beginning of December till the end of April, or cross-country skiing along more than 100 km of tracks and paths.
Many are also the cultural attractions which the twon offer all the year round. Among these, there are some which are certainly worth a mention, such as the Parish Church with its neo-gothic altar which keeps four precious bas-reliefs representing the Nativity, the visit of the Magi, the Presentation to the Temple and the Death of Mary.
Another masterpiece is then the cycle of frescoes in the Church of Sant'Elena, made by the painters of the School of Bolzano in 1400. These painting decorate the church of the XII century both outside and inside, with scenes from the Holy Bible.
Moreover, the lovers of sacred art cannot miss to visit the little museum in the Town Hall, in the Castle of Thurn, ancient seat of a tribunal in the XIII century, which still keeps a precious altarpiece by Orazio Giovanelli (1619), another one by Johann Georg Platzer dated XVIII century, baroque statues of the Saints Agata and Barbara, candelabra, church objects and a collection of holy pictures.
