Via Ferrata Tridentina

The via ferrata Tridentina is a wonderful hike which can be done starting from Passo Gardena. It offers an extraordinary landscape over the Sella group and a wonderful view of the Piscaidł waterfall. It climbs up the Exner Tower and requires some mountaineering experience.

From the car park close to the trunk road at 1956 m height between Passo Gardena and Colfosco, follow the road signs and turn down the path coming from Passo Gardena, going on until you reach the beginning of the via ferrata (45 min.).

Start climbing (you will see a small waterfall at your right) trough a long and exposed way, with ledges, equipped with stemples and cables. After this first part, you reach the mouth of a gorge: follow the equipped way on the right climbing up the wall of the Exner Tower.
At the bottom of the following equipped part, it is possible to leave the via ferrata and go up the gorge following an easy zigzag path taking you to the Pisciadł refuge (variant for less skilled climbers).
If you decide to continue the via ferrata, keep right on the wall of the Exner Tower for the last part of the way. The wall is almost vertical, but it is provided with cables, stemples and a small ladder, until you reach a breathtaking suspension bridge at 2430 meter height, connecting the Exner Tower to the Masores de Pisciadł, the Sella massif.
The refuge Rifugio Franco Cavazza al Pisciadł - 2586 m - can be easily reached trough the ledge (1.45 hours).

Descent: follow the path nr. 666 towards the West until you enter in the wild valley Val Setłs. Climb down in the gorge trough the easy rocks equipped with fixed cables, then gain height on the scree (or snow) to the mouth. There leave the path nr. 666 towards Passo Gardena and zigzag down through the scree until you reach the car park (1.30 hours).
