Passo Stelvio
At the Passo dello Stelvio air is more rarefied. The excursionist breathes with more difficulty and car engines start to puff, because of the altitude.
The Pass is at 2.758 metres above the sea level and, nowadays it is the second highest pass in the Alps and in Europe. Eternal snow descends along the steep slopes of the glaciers. This is the paradise of summer skiing.
on the Stelvio it is all a movement of colours and languages and it is an incessant melting pot. In an exposed point there is a strange building where you can read the sign “Rifugio Tibet”. This is not the only curiosity of Val Venosta inspired to the culture of the Far East. The climber and writer Reinhold Messner, a true lover of Tibet, lives in a castle which is like an eagle nest: Castel Juval. From the towers and the spires wave the flags of the prayers, and inside the castle there is an important collection of Tibetan art.
This territory is included in the Stelvio National Park.
