With a territory protected by as much as three nature reserves, located between the Val di Tures valley and the renowned tourist attraction that is the ski resort Plan de Corones, the Val Pusteria valley is a land where fun and nature become one, in every time of the year.
When the valley is covered by a soft blanket of snow, Plan de Corones is a favorite meeting point for all winter sport lovers, who can enjoy the many ski slopes, served by a convenient shuttle service. Cross-country skiing trails, snowshoeing routes, ski schools, cozy mountain huts awaiting you for a pleasant stopover: in Plan de Corones you find everything you need for your active snow holiday.
Summer brings forth a lot of opportunities for spending your leisure time in the lush meadows and woods of Val Pusteria: trekking tours in the nature reserve Parco Naturale di Fanes-Senes-Braies and at high altitudes, walks along the countless panoramic routes, Nordic walking in Plan de Corones, Brunico and Valdaora. There are also a lot of cycle tracks and trails to enjoy with your mountain bike, the outdoor swimming pools in Monguelfo and Brunico, and the riding schools for wonderful horseback riding tours.
The best way to discover the history and cultural heritage of the territory is with a tour to the many museums and castles: the Ladin Museum in Ciastel de Tor, Casteldarne Castle in Brunico and Welsperg Castle in Monguelfo. Worth a visit is also the peace bell Concordia 2000, the second largest one in the Alps, unveiled on Plan de Corones in 2003.
All year round the area hosts food and wine events like the Knödel Marathon, or sports events like the Transalp Challenge. And then there are of course the Christmas Market of Brunico and the Giro d’Italia.
Nice snowshoeing tour in the Val Pusteria valley, from the village of Elle to Cima Lasta, at an altitude of 2194 meters. The route follows well-marked trails, and once you get to the top you enjoy a breathtaking view.
