Villandro/Villanders
Villandro lies on a sweet slope that was choosen as residence area already in the liberty period.
Once it was an important lead, copper and silver sorting station (all the minerals came from the mountains above the village). With the passing of time Villandro has become a sunny and quiet flourishing tourist resort.
The excavations made in the town centre allowed to dig up evidences of the Bronze and Iron period and tracks of Roman settlements.
Upon those ancient settlement the current Villandro had been built with its picturesque centre, its old farms, its nice inns, and its well-known hotels surrounded by a scenery which seems to have been blessed by God Himself. The altitude, from the 491 m of the valley bottom to the 2509 m of the peak of the local mountain, spreads from the orchards to the bare stone through vineyards, fields, chestnut woods, meadows, woods and mountain pastures.
A season more suitable than another to visit Villandro does not exist: any period of the year offer magic moments and breathtaking sights. In spring, when the first plum trees are covered with white blosoms and the peaks covered with snow shine in the valley, but also in autumn, when the leaves get magic colours and the wine is put into the cellars and people eat chestnuts and speck and drink the "Nuie", the new wine.
In summer it is possible to make long walks and excursions in all the directions, while in winter ski lovers can practise their favourite sport always with a look at the marvellous valley and the Garda Dolomites.
