Vipiteno/Sterzing
Vipiteno is only 15 km far from the Brennero border. The XIVth and the XVth centuries saw the ascent of this little town thanks to its lead and silver mines.
It was just in this period that the first artistic attestations that characterize the town were born. The symbol of Vipiteno is the Tower of the Twelves.
The old town is really interesting and presents a lot of beautiful inns (Gasthäuser), almost all good kept and wainscoted. Here mirth plays the lord and master in a typical medieval scenery.
In summer Vipiteno is a very good starting point for trips to Austria and Germany. In winter you can ski in the ski-area of Monte Cavallo. The zone is covered by a ski run net where snow is always guaranteed thanks to the modern systems of artificial snow. Here you can ski at an altitude included between 950 and 2175 metres.
The shopping in the stores is really original: linen hand-woven tableclothes, embroidered cushions, felt slippers and wollen clothes,Tyrolese furniture and objects...
