Lagundo/Algund
Lagundo lies west of Merano, on the southern slope of the Natural Park of the Tessa, in a sunny position which benefits by the mild climate of the area.
This little village, with the houses grouped all around the church and the vineyards along the hill, beneath the mountain, remember the past times. For that reason a holiday in Lagundo is, from many points of view, a journey back in history.
The castles, the old houses, the ruins and the museums in Lagundo and in its outskirts, are tangible evidences of a history 1000 years old. So the ancient church testimonies the Roman culture, whereas the more recent one is one of the most beautiful all aver the Alps.
The monastery of Maria Steinach with its beautiful church in pre-gothic style, is another jewel of Lagundo.
Also those who practise sport, or simply like walking in the nature, are not exempt from this dive into the past. The present paths, the Waalweg, follow, in fact, the ancient irrigation system which in the past served vineyards and orchards of the area, and can be run both on foot and by bike.
The many streams offer an ideal scenery for canoeing and rafting, but also the lovers of golf and tennis, mountaineering and free-climbing and of all the other sports have endless possibilities at their disposal.
