Cavalese
Cavalese, together with Predazzo, is the main center of the valley and today an important tourist resort for summer and winter sports. The lovers of the sport activities can enjoy the Alpe Cermis, the near facilities of Pampeago-Obereggen and Lavazè-Oclini, the wild atmosphere of the range of Lagorai, a destination for wonderful excursions of ski touring and summer trekking.
The settlement developed in the XIIth century on the shores of the Gambis torrent. Here arose mills, centers for the working of iron and copper, for the dyeing of the clothes, tanneries and sawmills. Cavalese became soon the political, religious and economic Capital of the valley. It was the summer residence of the bishops of Trento of the XVIth century and from 1850 it is the seat of the Magnificent Community of Fiemme. Inhabited by Episcopal civil employees and many well-off families, Cavalese saw between 1400 and 1600 the construction of lordly palaces adorned from sacred frescoes and decorations that still characterize the citadel.
