The Lavarone plateau, a wide area characterized by pastures and wavy meadows which had been the scene of bloody battles during the Fisrt World War (testified by the rests of several forts and war structures), guests Lavarone lake, one of the cleanest lakes in Italy.
The sheet of water with Karst origin has a surface area of 64,000 metres and lies at 1100 metres above sea level.
Its waters and the environs give a sense of serenity. The Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud, the founder of Psychoanalysis, used to spend here its holidays and to relax walking along the lake.
The table-land, an ideal place for peaceful and relaxing summer holidays, offers several sport and free time opportunities, as well as many typical dishes allowing to discover the flavours of Dolomites.
In winter Lavarone becomes a well-Known ski resort.
THE LEGEND OF THE LAVARONE LAKE
There is a nice legend about this small place.
According to it, once upon a time there was a very luxuriant wood instead of the lake, which belonged to two brothers. After several quarrels between the two God, disgusted by them, decided to flood the wood: this is how the lake we can see nowadays was born.
