Already in the second half of 1800 Madonna di Campiglio was well-known as a tourist resort, so that, at the end of the XIX century, it was turned into the exclusive resort of Austrian and Mittel-European aristocracy and rich bourgeoisie. Among its most famous guests there are the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph and the princess Sissi.
… and it could not be otherwise. This well-known town lies on a wonderful hollow among the group of the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella.
In 1947, the Società Funivie Madonna di Campiglio was founded with the aim of bringing out the value and promoting skiing and the tourist resort itself. Nowadays the guests of Madonna di Campiglio can enjoy a ski area equipped with 90 kilometres of track for all levels (from the ski schools to the "black" tracks where the champions of the World Cup challenge themselves) and for all the specialities of this sport, from Nordic ski to Cross-country and ski mountaineering and from snowboard to carving.
Madonna di Campiglio, however, is not only synonym of winter tourism, but it can offer incredible emotions to its guests in summer too. In fact, only few metres far from the town centre, you will be plunged into a wonderful ensemble of lakes, little valleys, streams, mountain huts, rifugios at the foot of the majestic peaks in the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park. Endless paths into the green can be run on foot, by bike, on a horseback… or seen from the sky, paragliding.
Those who prefer quieter sports can play golf at the golf club in Campo Carlo Magno, or play tennis, soccer… in short it is really impossible to get bored!
