Malé, the main town of the Val di Sole, has ancient origins which can probably be dated back to the Roman period. However the first documents which names Malè, with the function of a religious centre, is dated 1178.
The current aspect of the town reflects the reconstruction of 1892, after that a terrible fire destroyed many buildings. Among the few buildings that had not been destroyed there is the wonderful church dedicated to Saint Valentine, with its two altars in the baroque style, the pulpit dated 1670 and the the picture of the Nativity painted in 1614.
Few steps far from the main square it is worth a visit the Museum of the Civiltà Solandra, which houses a permanent exhibition of cultural and working tradition of the Val di Sole. Indeed, here you can see the ancient works of carpenters, blacksmiths, farmers, breeders and weavers, and also the living environments of the ancient inhabitants of the valley and an exhibition of old original tools.
In winter, Malé is an excellent starting point to the three great skiing resorts of the ski area Val di Sole: Folgarida-Marilleva, Valle di Pejo and Passo del Tonale.
In summer, on the contrari it is possibile to start many excursions towards the Brenta Dolomites or the Stelvio National Park.
