Mazzin

An old wedding rite that is still celebrated in Val di Fassa is the "baschìa", that is performed at the exit from the church. The main characters are Harlequin, the king and the "bufon" (jester). The groom is accused of taking his wife out of the state borders. Harlequin or the "bufon" are his "defense attorneys"; the trial take places at the presence of the "King of Sobena" and ends with the accused's acquittal against payment of a heavy fine and the reading of the sentence (in verses), a nursery-rhyme about personal more or less known facts of the couple.
Mazzin is represented by two “peila cristi”, i.e. bold and few respectful people.
