Trento - Monte Bondone
Many are the things you can do during a holiday in Valle dell’Adige, Trento - Monte Bondone: cycling, skiing, trekking on vie ferrate, sport fishing, and a visit to museums and castles, for a wine tasting event or folk celebrations.
The Valle dell’Adige valley stretches from Val Venosta to Vallagarina, from the Piana Rotaliana plain to Mattarello. Its wide valley floor is covered by vineyards and surrounded by imposing mountain groups.
The Piana Rotaliana plain covers the northern section of the valley and is famous for its wine industry. In the center of the valley you find Trento, a melting pot of different cultures with many castles, historical dwellings and museums. On the west rises the Bondone Mountain which, with its beautiful botanical garden, is a paradise for sport enthusiasts in every season. And then, on the southwest stretches the Valle dei Laghi valley, with its lush Mediterranean and Alpine vegetation.
In this beautiful valley you can practice a wide range of outdoor sports, but the most widespread is without a doubt cycling: with the many trails of different levels, the Adige Valley Cycle Track, and the many race competitions organized on the Bondone Mountain, like the Gran Fondo Internazionale Charly Gaul, every cyclist will find here their perfect trail.
The Bondone Mountain hosts also another important sports event: the famous uphill car racing Trento – Bondone.
Another popular sport is trekking, thanks to the many beautiful trails that cross the territory and the interesting theme routes: the Wine and Flavors Route dedicated to the most delicious local specialties; the Emperor’s Fortresses leading to the military buildings; and the Water Itineraries, a tour to the discovery of the natural beauties of the Valle dei Laghi valley.
Expert climbers can put themselves to the test on many exciting routes, like the via ferrata Giulio Segata or the fully equipped route Burrone Giovanelli, leading to the surrounding peaks, whereas in Valle dei Laghi, with nine crystal clear lakes hiding a rich variety of fish, fishermen find a true paradise.
In winter skiers have a lot of fun on the skiarea Monte Bondone, with its wide ski slopes, and on the Viote plateau there are cross-country skiing trails and snowshoeing routes.
Valle dell’Adige has a lot of cultural attractions: Buonconsiglio Castle, the Mart, museum of contemporary art, the Museum of Natural Science in Trento, Drena Castle in Valle dei Laghi and the ruins of San Gottardo Castle in Mezzocorona.
The lively towns and villages of this valley host many traditional events: the Wine Exhibition in Trento, the Harvest Festival (perfect chance to try some local products), the Bondone Mountain Herbs Weeks, and the Vigilian Feasts with its beautiful historical reenactment.
Nature lovers will find a true paradise in Valle dei Laghi and in the many biotopes scattered on the territory (like the one of the Viote Peat Bog on the Bondone Mountain), where they have the chance to admire wonderful natural treasures and rare plant and animal species.
The tour of the Tree Peaks of Bondone is one of the best known hiking tours of the area surrounding Trento and leads through Cornetto, Doss D’Abramo and Cima Verde.
The trail Tree Peaks of Bondone starts on the Viote Plateau and takes first to the Viote Peat Bog. From here you can continue along trail n.607 or take towards southwest to the Bocca di Vaiona.
Toblino Castle rises in the municipality of Calavino, in Trentino, on a stretch of land along the shores of the lake bearing the same name. Rebuilt several times during the years, the fortress attracts also for its disturbing legends.
This wonderful 15 century stronghold, maybe the most famous of Trentino, on the shores of Lake Toblino. Remembered in many romantic legends, Toblino Castle had several owners, among which stands out Bernardo Clesio, who rebuilt the castle in Renaissance style.
