Vigo di Fassa

The town of Vigo lies in a particularly sunny position, where Fassa valley reaches its maximum width; once a chief town and an important political centre, it is nowadays the seat of the Ladin Cultural Instutute.
On the background of the town, the most famous Dolomitic peaks can be seen in their majesty: the Group of Sassoungo, Col Rondella, the Sella massif, the Group of Vallacia with the imposing Cima Dodici.
From the streets of the town centre, the tourist's attention is instead captured by the luminous frozen Marmolada wall, the queen of the Dolomites!
Besides offering a really unique, incomparable landscape, Vigo is a true paradise for tourists: both for those who love active sports holidays, and for those who look for peace and rest.
The accomodation facilities ready to receive the valley's guests are numerous, and so are also the sports structures which will immerse the turist into the wonderful world of the Dolomites of Trentino region.
A modern cable way connects the inhabited centre to the top of mount Ciampedine (2000 m above sea-level), the starting point of enchanting summer excursions in the heart of Catinaccio (also known as the "Garden of the Roses") and a winter destination of numerous skilled skiers and beginners, wishing to meet and admire the champion Alberto Tomba, who often comes training on these ski slopes.
The best way to savour the flavour of tradition and to plunge into the peaceful atmosphere of this strip of Trentino, is to leave the town centre and take the state road 241 towards Bolzano: after a couple of kilometres one meets two delightful small towns, Vallonga and Tamion (respectively 1513 and 1548 m above sea-level), which, with their tiny groups of houses and some old haylofts, inspire a feeling of deep serenity
